2019 Theme 'The unboxing experience'

The theme of this year’s competition is ‘the unboxing experience’. The objective is to create a packaging for your favourite products that is attractive enough to want to share on Instagram. After all, who doesn’t love unwrapping gifts? There’s a reason why unboxing videos have become such a hit on YouTube in recent years. But a pleasant unboxing experience can of course be traced back to a sophisticated packaging design. A package goes through various stages, from manufacturer to online shop to supplier, before it is finally received by a customer. During this journey, the packaging must protect its contents in order to ensure that the unboxing experience is a success. When we wait for a package, we are full of excited anticipation, so the moment of unboxing is a key moment for designers. How does the customer get their money’s worth – how can we give them an unforgettable surprise? How is this brief moment transformed into something extra special without foregoing the functionality of the packaging? This is exactly the question you should answer with your ideas of functional packaging. Show us your interpretation of a spectacular unboxing experience that the world must see!
