A product especially for football fans to commemorate the World Cup.

Kägi Söhne AG and Model AG wanted to come up with something unique for the 2018 football World Cup. The result is the Kägi Winner, filled with Kägi Minis, which is sure to delight football fans and is the ideal treat to bring along to a football evening with friends. The match schedule on the packaging offers an overview of what games are coming up next.

The concept was developed when Kägi came to us with the mission of developing something out of the ordinary for this year’s World Cup. The form of the Kägi Winner currently available at various retailers was chosen based on a prototype. ‘We thought the format was really cool. From that, we came up with the idea of pasting the trophy on the front. We wanted to incorporate the trophy and the match schedule into the packaging to get customers in the football mood,’ said Pascal Sax, Marketing Manager DACH at Kägi.

Precise manufacturing required

The Kägi Winner was printed on 1.5 mm-thick E-flute corrugated board using a four-colour digital printing procedure with water-based ink. The board is die cut and adhered together, and the integrated viewing window gives customers a peek at the product inside. The cup was manually pasted to the packaging, which presented a particular challenge when it came to precisely attaching the two openings of the primary and secondary packaging during packaging manufacture.

Integrated tamper-evident seal

Another customer requirement was the desire to avoid the need to attach an additional label for the tamper-evident seal. As a result, the seal is located in the upper tab, behind the ball. The extended tab can be tucked in with a little pressure, but not opened without being ripped. The perforated golden flap with the lettering ‘Road to Final’ in the base of the Kägi Winner offers access to the product. This guarantees both a peek at the product and easy removal of the chocolate wafers.

Complete processing from a single source

Kägi Söhne AG used the Model Copack Plus Service, which took over manufacturing, storage and order picking of the Kägi Winner. Model Copack Plus also eliminates the need for superfluous interfaces, and the packaging and displays arrive to the point of sale properly assembled at the right time. ‘In-house implementation was no longer possible due to the large volumes. We have been very satisfied with the Copack Plus Service in the past and were happy to work with them again for this project,’ says Pascal Sax.
