    Sustainable packaging: Recognize and buy

For consumers, sustainable product and shipping packaging is a strong purchasing criterion. As a manufacturer of ecological packaging made from recycled corrugated cardboard, we can give you practical tips: This is how to design your packaging processes to be sustainable.

Sustainable packaging – what does that mean?

The issue of environmentally friendly and recyclable packaging is becoming increasingly important for retail, e-commerce and product manufacturers. Because consumers want to know: Does the company I buy from care about the environment? Does it have sustainability goals? What is the supply chain like? But the criteria for sustainability are vague, especially when it comes to packaging. This page gives you valuable tips on how to recognize and buy sustainable packaging.

Thanks to our manufacturing in line with the circular economy, we can offer you a comprehensive selection of ecological, high-quality packaging for your needs in the Model Online Shop. Would you like an individual, sustainable packaging solution? Our experts are happy to advise you.

    Identify sustainable packaging

    1. Resource conservation

Sustainable packaging is produced in a resource-saving manner. This applies to the material (preferably renewable raw materials) and the use of energy (low-CO2).

    2. High product protection

Sustainable packaging uses little material and still reliably protects your product. Because product loss increases your carbon footprint

    3. Recyclable

Sustainable packaging is recyclable and has the necessary (legally required) markings.

    4. Manufacturer’s CO2 footprint

Your packaging manufacturer pays attention to sustainability throughout the value chain.

    5. Sustainability goals

The manufacturer of your packaging pursues clear sustainability goals that you can understand.

    6. Labelling

If your packaging enters an EU country: Your manufacturer marks packaging materials with the legally prescribed recycling code and supports you concerning questions about labelling.

Well thought out: environmentally friendly packaging

    Sustainable packaging

We use old cardboard as a raw material

In the Model Online Shop we offer you a wide range of ecological packaging made of corrugated cardboard. For this purpose, we produce environmentally friendly recycling material from thousands of tons of old cardboard in our own paper mills every week. Thanks to this paper cycle and low-emission energies, we are reducing our CO2 emissions enormously.

    Co-Packing

Our experts from Model Co-Packing are at your disposal for your comprehensive packaging solution, which requires as little material as possible and at the same time optimally protects your product. SBTi

    Commitment to sustainability

As a packaging manufacturer, we are very aware of our responsibility to the climate. In order to significantly reduce emissions in our value chain, the Model Group has set itself ambitious sustainability goals as part of the global Net-Zero standard “Science Based Targets initiative” (SBTi). Our customers who value low-CO2 packaging benefit from this.

    Eco-friendly packaging: Made in Switzerland

You have probably heard of the “Swiss Made” designation of origin for products from Switzerland. There are legal regulations that various goods and services must meet to bear this seal of quality. In order to be able to describe our packaging as “Swiss Made,” 60 percent of our manufacturing costs have to be incurred in Switzerland. The essential manufacturing step must also take place here in Switzerland.

60 percent would be enough for our packaging products to bear the “Swiss Made” label. But we would not be Model if we did not give 100 percent.

Because “Swiss Made” means more to us: Our value chain remains 100 percent in Switzerland, from the raw material to the end product. This is how we can guarantee our customers a sustainable, closed paper cycle: Today, Model packaging consists of more than 85 percent recycled fibers, and we are constantly optimizing the process. Find out more about the closed paper cycle.

    Swiss Label: locally connected

For us, sustainability is closely linked to our connection to our location. We emphasize this through our membership in the Swiss Label association. This association promotes Swiss products and services and shows you, the customer, the connection to Switzerland in a simple, friendly way.

    Sustainability made in Switzerland

    Recycled cardboard from Switzerland

With our Recover service model, we effectively collect and recycle old cardboard: Our trucks pick up used boxes with every delivery. And new boxes are created from this.

    Swiss energy

Our energy comes from the region: We obtain wheat starch for paper production from our supplier “right across the street.” We also rely on Swiss electricity, which is nearly CO2-neutral.

    Swiss Made sustainability

Products that you buy in our online shop are “Swiss Made” and sustainable, thanks to the closed paper cycle.
