Launch of a new corrugator in Model Nymburk

The new Fosber S/Line 420 in Nymburk increases the production capacity of the plant by 40%

    Nymburk, 19th April 2023

The brand new Fosber S/Line 420 corrugating machine at the Model Obaly plant in Nymburk a.s. was jointly inaugurated by the CEO of Model Group and the company owner Dr. Daniel Model and  the CEO of the technology supplier Fosber Group Marco Bertola in the presence of more than 60 distinguished guests, including customers, representatives of the city of Nymburk and the Central Bohemian Region.

    Production capacity increase by 40%

The 142-metre-long facility will replace the original corrugating machine, increasing the corrugated production capacity by 40%, i.e. to more than 200 million m2 of corrugated board per year. The new machine is 25% faster and enables the production of cardboard up to 280 cm wide, compared to the original 250 cm.

"The device has many functions that will allow us to be better prepared and equipped for Industry 4.0. At the same time, it is yet another step towards a higher degree of digitization and automation of our processes," said Josef Chalupný, COO of Model Obaly a.s.

Development of the plant in Nymburk

As part of the new machine installation project, it was necessary to implement a number of supporting projects, such as installing completely new central distributions of air, steam, water and electricity. Furthermore, new logistics systems were set up, the dispatch area was moved, a new boiler room and light fuel oil storage tanks were built as an alternative to gas and many other projects. The total investment in this project exceeded CZK 400 million.

The Model Nymburk plant was the group's first plant built on a green field. The foundation stone was laid in 1995. In 1996 the plant already employed 86 employees and produced a total of 20 million m2 of corrugated cardboard. In 2022, 220 employees worked at the plant and the annual production of corrugated cardboard reached 150 million m2. The installation of the new machine will increase the production capacity of the plant up to 220 million m2.

“I greatly appreciate the work of the entire project team, as well as the cooperation with the main equipment supplier, Fosber Group. The project started on schedule and without major problems. We can thus offer our customers even better packaging solutions from our own production of corrugated cardboard," added Josef Chalupný.
