Three quick tips: The ideal e-commerce packaging is…

    Space-saving

Boxes with variable heights save space and costs.

    Intact

Without cracks and kinks. Because broken boxes don’t make a good impression.

    Closed well

With adhesive tape or self-adhesive closure. So nothing goes wrong during transport.

Online retail: Optimize your shipping packaging

    Joy when opening

    Convince customers

Happy about the product but frustrated when unpacking it? You can avoid that. Your customer will immediately see whether you, as the seller, have invested time and ideas in the shipping packaging. High-quality packaging made of corrugated cardboard pleases the senses visually and haptically. Customer-friendly boxes come with a practical self-adhesive closure (SAC) and can be opened quickly thanks to the pre-perforated tear strip.

    Sustainable material

Shipping in an environmentally friendly way

Consumers want sustainable packaging. Recyclable materials, like corrugated cardboard, are better for the environment and easy to dispose of. Rely on sustainability when it comes to the upholstery material: The trick is to use matching mailer boxes for different product sizes. This way you don’t have to pad out any additional spaces.

    Chips, foil, paper

    Pad & fill safely

Every product needs a specific filling material that reliably protects it on its journey to the customer. Packaging chips, bubble wrap, tissue paper – the selection is huge. Our guide to the right filling material gives you practical tips for your product. For example, why you should definitely avoid bulky padding material.

    UN dangerous goods packaging

    Pack dangerous goods correctly

Is your product a dangerous good? This is the case when your goods are potentially dangerous to people, animals or the environment during transport. Did you know that this even includes hairspray and aftershave? You must send dangerous goods in special UN dangerous goods packaging and mark them accordingly. Read more important information here:

3 steps to your e-commerce packaging

    Step 1

    Optimize shipping box

High-quality, printed shipping packaging emphasizes your brand and your product. Pack accurately: too big is expensive and not sustainable, too small offers little space for padding material.

    Step 2

    Reduce packaging costs

Oversized boxes mean higher padding and storage costs. Your optimal shipping packaging may be a cheap standard box if it fits your products perfectly.

    Step 3

    Provide easy handling

Create a positive customer experience when opening: Use minimal tape or tear-strip packaging that does not require cutting tools. Returns are child’s play with the return seal.

    Shipping packaging made easy

These 10 tips will help you pack professionally for your e-commerce. Retain your customers in the long term with high-quality, sustainable and clever shipping packaging.

Checklist: Pack the package correctly for online retail

    1. Show your brand: Brand your shipping packaging inside and out. If you use standard boxes that you cannot or do not want to print on, use high-quality stickers or inserts with a personal message.
    2. Neutral packaging for special products: When shipping expensive or delicate items, protect your packages from theft and your customers from embarrassment.
    3. The right carton size for all products: Your customers will be happy about small boxes. You save storage costs and money for unnecessary filling material.
    4. A self-adhesive closure makes your packaging more efficient: Boxes with an automatic bottom also save time when setting up and packing.
    5. Use sustainable, high-quality packaging material: Space-saving boxes made of 100 percent recyclable corrugated cardboard and paper tape are always a good choice. For heavy packages, use a particularly robust adhesive tape so that nothing tears.
    6. Do not leave empty spaces: With the right filling material, you can secure your product securely in the shipping packaging. Separate individual products from each other so they don’t rub or damage each other during transport.
    7. Protect sensitive products: In addition to classic filling material, there are individual solutions such as bottle packaging for wine or mailing bags for printed items. You can also protect sensitive items with a corresponding notice on your shipping packaging (“Caution glass”, “Do not bend”).
    8. Check the shipping label: Your online business is going well and you have to label a lot of packages? Check the shipping label carefully to avoid returns and dissatisfied customers.
    9. Make returns easy: Use packaging with additional adhesive strips. Your customers can easily reseal the box and don’t need tape or a new box to return it. This ensures that you get your products back in good condition.
    10. Pack dangerous goods correctly: The International Agreement concerning the Carriage of Dangerous Goods (ADR) provides regulations for dangerous materials and objects, as well as various guidelines for shipping by land and air.
