It is essential to sort recycled paper in order to provide the paper industry with the qualities of waste paper it requires. This involves removing non-paper materials from the collection and bundling together the defined kinds of recycled paper that the paper industry needs.
The materials collected are sorted manually or with partial automation. This process is the final quality control before the used paper is sent to the paper factory. Paper can be produced from department store waste (kraft paper bags, corrugated board packaging), office waste, newspapers, colored documents and magazines.
